National Science Day 2026

National Science Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and scientific spirit at Baddi University of Emerging Sciences and Technology on 27th February, 2026 by the School of Sciences. This year’s theme, “Women in Science: Catalyzing Viksit Bharat” (2026), strongly emphasized the transformative role of women in STEM fields in accelerating India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation.

The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) J. K. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University. Prof. (Dr.) Swaran Lata, former Professor from CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University, Palampur, and Prof. (Dr.) Khushmeet Kumar, Registrar, were invited as Guests of Honor. Deans, Heads of Departments, faculty members, and students from various schools marked their esteemed presence.

The program commenced with the formal welcome of dignitaries followed by the ceremonial lamp lighting, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and the spirit of scientific inquiry. The Welcome Address set the tone of the celebration, underlining the significance of National Science Day and the relevance of this year’s theme in promoting women’s participation in science and research.

The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Ashok Kumar, Associate Dean (Students and Academics), NITTTR, Chandigarh. In his insightful and thought-provoking address, he elaborated on the pivotal contributions of women scientists in healthcare innovation, climate action, space exploration, agriculture, digital transformation, and sustainable technologies. He emphasized that empowering women in science not only strengthens research ecosystems but also fosters diverse perspectives, better policy decisions, and equitable development. He encouraged young students, especially girls, to actively pursue careers in science and innovation to contribute meaningfully to nation-building.

Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) J. K. Sharma, in his presidential address, strongly emphasized that the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 cannot be realized without substantial and meaningful participation of women in science and technology. He stated that women scientists are key contributors to national progress through research excellence, innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership. He stressed the need to create supportive academic ecosystems, provide equal opportunities, encourage research fellowships, and promote women in leadership roles within institutions.

The theme-based lecture concluded with the vote of thanks, delivered by Dr Nidhi Gupta, Associate Dean (SOS). She expressed sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest Prof. (Dr.) J. K. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Guests of Honour -Prof. (Dr.) Swaran Lata and Prof. (Dr.) Khushmeet Kumar, Speaker-Dr. Ashok Kumar, Principal Nursing Prof. Usha Mehta, COE- Dr. Geena Sharma, SWO- Dr. Sushma Singh, Emeritus Prof. (Dr.) Tejvir Singh, Deans and HoDs of various schools for their esteemed presence. She gratefully acknowledged the constant guidance and support provided by the University administration and esteemed dignitaries, and sincerely appreciated the dedicated efforts of the Event Coordinator, Dr. Sarvjeet Kaur; Co-coordinators, Ms. Neha and Ms. Ritika along with the faculty members and students, whose collective commitment ensured the grand success of the event.

In Science Exhibition, students enthusiastically presented models and flexes on themes such as Comfort Devices, Radar System, Green Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Solar System, Spectroscopy, Biodiversity, Organic Farming, Renewable Energy, Women-led Innovations in Science etc. The exhibition reflected the creativity, analytical thinking, and scientific temperament of the students.

The group discussions explored the transformative impact of AI, the role of women in advancing Viksit Bharat, and the influence of social media on well-being, emphasizing innovation, leadership, ethics, and mental health. Furthermore, a quiz competition covering basic science, general knowledge, and current affairs related to National Science Day was organized to foster awareness, analytical thinking, and scientific aptitude among students. The “Fun with Science” segment featured exciting demonstrations like fake blood, smoke pouring like liquid (dry ice effect), Chemical Chameleon, and Elephant Toothpaste. These activities illustrated key chemical reactions in an engaging and interactive manner.

The Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor and other dignitaries visited the exhibition stalls, interacted with participants, and appreciated their innovative ideas and dedicated efforts. Their encouragement motivated students to further strengthen their scientific pursuits. Certificates were distributed to the winners and participants of various competitions by the Chief Guest and Guests of Honour, who congratulated the students and appreciated their enthusiastic participation and commendable efforts.

The event proved to be an inspiring platform that not only celebrated scientific achievements but also reinforced the critical role of women in shaping India’s scientific and technological future. The celebration witnessed active participation from faculty members and students, making it a grand success.

The program concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks proposed by the Event Coordinator, Dr. Sarvjeet Kaur, who expressed sincere gratitude to the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour, Principal Nursing Prof. Usha Mehta, Controller of Examination Dr. Geena Sharma, Student Welfare officer Dr. Sushma Singh, Emeritus Prof. (Dr.) Tejvir Singh for their esteemed presence. She also thanked the organizing team and participants for their valuable contributions in making the event successful.

The School of Sciences continues its commitment to nurturing scientific temper, promoting gender inclusivity in STEM, and contributing towards the vision of Viksit Bharat through education, innovation, and research excellence.
