Director's Profile
Being one of the most respected names within academia in the Indian Business Schools circuit, Dr. Sorab Sadri is an Economist by avocation and a specialist in Human Resources by vocation. He has completed his post graduation in Industrial Relations with Honours from XLRI. He joined the House of Tata in 1969 1nd remained there up until 1976. During this period he obtained a Bachelors Degree in Law from Ranchi University, as well as his post graduation in Business Management from XLRI Jamshedpur. Thereafter he went to UK on a J N Tata Scholarship in 1976. There he obtained a Master of Science Degree in Economics with specialization in Labour and Industry and a Doctorate in Economics in 1985 for his work on Industrial Relations & Business Policy, both from the prestigious London School of Economics and Political Science.

Having served in an academic and research capacity in Nigerian Universities for six years under an UNESCO funded faculty support program to West Africa, from 1977 Professor Sadri returned to London in 1983 to complete his Doctorate. During this period, he taught for four years at Oxford and London. Thereafter he joined the University of East Asia for a further four years. In 1991, he returned to India, took up a Visiting Professorship at NITIE, and shortly left for Jamshedpur as Professor of Industrial Relations and Area Coordinator of Personnel Management at XLRI where he stayed until 1995. He was Visiting Professor of Business Policy at IIM (Kozhikode) and Visiting Professor of Human Resources at IIM (Indore).

Professor Sadri has over ten years experience in the Corporate World and about thirty two years of experience in the Academic World. He has been Director (Applied Research and HRD) at the ICSI-CCRT Navi Mumbai for a period of about three years. He has also been in active consultancy while being a professor for several years in the fields of Business Process Re-Engineering, Organisational Diagnosis and Human Resources Management. He has written over one hundred and forty papers in internationally refereed journals on a variety of social and management science subjects and authored eight books. He has developed a unique expertise in developing case studies for HRD facilitation culled from live data. Fifty such case studies sponsored by TELCO have been published under the title Business Ethics: Concepts and Cases (Tata McGraw Hill 1998).

After a stint as Professor of Human Resources Management and Head of the Research Wing at N L Dalmia Institute of Management Studies and Research, he took charge as Director of the Institute of Management of the Mumbai Educational Trust in summer of 2000. He then joined ICSI as Director (Applied Research and HRD) at the Centre for Corporate Research and Training at Navi Mumbai. Thereafter, from December 2003 he moved to Pune and became Research Professor and Director of the Padmashree Dr. D Y Patil Institute of Management Research at Akurdi, Pune. Considered to be at the helm of the Mind Based School of Business Ethics, he is the recipient of several honours.

To his credit he has developed a Model of Auditing Human Resources and founded the Praxis School of Thought on Business Ethics. He is an elected member of the British Institute of Management, Royal Economic Society and a life member of the Indian Society of Labour Economics, the Bombay Management Association and the National HRD Network. His wife S. Jayashree, a scholar in her own right, has co-authored three books with him: Theory and Practice of Managerial Ethics (Jaico, 1999, 2008), Geometry of HR (Himalaya Pub. 2002) and Business Ethics and Corporate Governance: towards Organisational Excellence (Universities Press, 2009). The book co-authored with Prof Jayashree Sadri and Dr Nitin Nayak and is entitled: A Strategic Approach to HRM, (Jaico 2009). His book Business Ethics and Corporate Governance was publiished in print with Current Publications Agra. Manifestations of Excellence in Management co-authored by Prof. Bijoy Guha and Prof Jayashree Sadri is in print. His book co-authored by Prof Jayashree Sadri and entitled Human Resources Management in Modern India – Concepts and Cases as is his edited book Management in the New Millennium are being published by Himalaya Publishing Co, Mumbai 2012. His book co-authored with Bijoy Guha and Atul Vatsyayan, Business Excellence: concepts, criteria, confluence and commentary is due to be published in late 2012.

In 1999, his case study won the National Award from the Indian Society of Training and Development, Delhi. In 2000, the respected Bombay Management Association adjudged him the Best Teacher of Management and in 2001, he was given the Vocational Excellence Award by Rotary International in 2002 for his contribution to the dissemination of the History of Economic Thought among scholars.

In 2003, he has received the Gyan Putra Puraskar from his hometown of Jamshedpur while in 2004 he jointly received the Best Paper Award (along with his wife) from Indian Society of Training and Development (New Delhi). After serving as Research Professor at Indira School of Business Studies in Pune and Editor of the Indira Management Review, he is now Director (Research) at Bharati Vidyapeeth University’s Institute of Management and Entrepreneurial Development, Erandawane, Pune 411 038, India. He is also the Editor of Bharati Vidyapeeth University’s IMED Journal of Management and Social Research, which is a quarterly peer reviewed academic journal published from IMED Pune and he is on the Editorial Board of three other journals. In addition, Dr Sadri had taken additional charge as Director of Abhijit Kadam Institute of Management and Social Studies in Solapur from the summer of 2008 up until the autumn of 2010 when he returned to Pune as Director (Research). He is on the research panel of AICTE on Knowledge Management and Dr Sadri’s name has been mentioned in USA’s “academic who is who” 2010.

In 2011 Dr Sadri chaired a session and also delivered the Keynote Address at Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda for the National Seminar on "Contextual Contours of Corporate Social Responsibility in a Globalised World". Later that year at the International Conference on "Evolving Frontiers in Business- Nation-Society Interface", in Bangalore, Dr Sadri delivered an Invited Paper and received the rare honour of being given a life-time achievement trophy for his "Consistent and Distinguished Contribution to Management and Social Research". More recently he was the Keynote Speaker at the International Conference on "Emergence of India as a Global Economic Superpower: Fact or Fiction" on 27th April in Pune. From October 2011 he has taken full charge as Director of the Institute of Management Studies, Baddi University of Emerging Sciences and Technology, Himachal Pradesh 173205.
