Dr. Praveen Ailawalia
Ph.D (Mathematics)
Associate Professor and Head of Department

Dr. Praveen Ailawalia joined BUEST as Head of Applied Sciences and Humanities Department in Nov. 2011. He has done his Ph. D in Applied Mathematics from Kurukshetra University. He has been teaching graduate and post graduate classes; has been guiding Ph. D and M. Phil scholars and has a rich experience of 13 years. Four Ph. D scholars are working under his guidance while two have been awarded degrees. He has co-authored six books in Engineering Mathematics. He is also credited with 52 published papers in International journals and 11 in national journals. Dr. Praveen has also presented research papers in national and International conferences. He is also a research reviewer of reputed national and International journals published from Italy, China, USA etc. He is a life member of professional societies ISTE and Punjab Science Academy. He has the ability, vision and commitment to lead the department and manage it in such a way as to ensure that all members of the department are positively encouraged to develop their potential to the full.

Applied Mathematics division caters to the instructions in basic courses in Applied Mathematics for all the streams of this Institute. This section offers courses to undergraduate and postgraduate students of various disciplines.

The Applied Physics spans Engineering and Physics in which fundamental physical principles provide a sound base for all engineering students so that these principles can be used by them to address research issues of technological importance.

Applied Chemistry division shoulders the responsibility of teaching Chemistry to all the engineering students. This subpart of Applied Sciences is providing a basic knowledge of Applied Chemistry and Environmental Engineering to all branches of B.Tech.

Communication & Professional skills in English make an integral part of the Engineering Curriculum. In the today's world of globalization & competition in an international market, the need of command over English Language & polished communication skills is highly felt. Therefore this subject fulfills the need of the hour. The faculty of English is highly skilled at motivating and inspiring the students.

It prepares our students to face the world with required confidence & grit.

• To improve the students fluency and accuracy in English as much as possible during the period of instruction.
• To develop the students ability to improve their existing skills by using effective communication strategies throughout the instruction.
• To provide an orientation to reach the expectation of the university and the faculty both inside and outside the classroom.
• To prepare students to become more confident and active participants in all aspects of their undergraduate programs.

Management faculty has also joined us with the purpose of providing graduate students in science and engineering programs with basic management skills including project planning, project management, personnel management, functional business disciplines, strategic planning and management of technology development & innovation. Students will develop an understanding of the basic financial tools needed to develop business proposals and successfully manage scientific projects in public and private work sectors.
